After a very busy year of weddings up and down the east coast, winter is a welcome peaceful time for me. It is also my favorite time of year to take engagement photos. Most weddings in Maine take place between late Spring to Autumn, so I have the most flexibility in winter, and I find there are so many benefits to bundling up and adventuring with your love!
My favorite thing to capture during winter engagements is the coziness. The cuddles are REAL! I love the quality of the hugs and laughter that ensues when taking photos outside with a bit of chill in the air. The colder temperatures keep people home, so you have so many locations to yourself. Most of my couples do not like being the center of attention, so they are more comfortable during their session without an audience. Sunrise and sunset are at reasonable hours- so you don’t have to wake up at 4 am to get golden hour photos.
I love photographing in the snow. Capturing it falling is magical, and the brightness of it illuminates the quieter landscape. Night also becomes more photogenic as twinkle lights are in abundance- and they make such an elegant setting almost anywhere. If you love winter sports that’s another opportunity to catch you doing something you love in your element.
If you are considering a Maine winter engagement session, do it! You won’t regret it.
