Maine Lakeside + Oxbow Wedding

When a couple is having a Maine lakeside ceremony and a wedding celebration at the Oxbow Blending and Bottling, how can I say no? The answer is I can’t, and I could not have asked for a kinder couple to photograph. Michael and Rachel and Michael have such a unique story. They were set up by their best friend Marcy- who grew up in Vermont with Rachel and met Michael upon moving to New York City. The couple fell in love in New York and then made a move to Portland, Maine together, where they now enthusiastically call home. These two know and love the city, so it was important to celebrate their marriage with all they hold dear, in the place they love.

As I mentioned, their wedding was ingenious as it was a split day affair that honored both the intimate and one’s need to party! The day started at Michael’s family’s lake home, where the two have spent so much time together. It’s a rare delight that they had the ceremony at a place that is so special to them and their families.

The property was festively decorated with bunting by Michael’s mother. The two families buzzed-about, getting everything into place, and then gathered lakeside to watch the ceremony. Rachel walked with her Dad from the house to join the celebration with a big smile and the wind blowing softly. Their officiant was non-other than their joint best friend Marcy, who introduced them. The couple and families shared words, laughter, and tears. It was short and sweet and real. After it was official, Michael and Rachel walked onto the dock to capture some wedded bliss, then joined their families inside for a cheerful lunch.

A few hours later, their epic wedding party took place at Oxbow Blending and Bottling, one of their favorite spots they frequent in Portland. The vibe of Oxbow is very modern and alluring. Rachel added her DIY paper flowers to the tables for a hint of whimsy. Guests enjoyed appetizers and cocktails, then cheered as the couple strolled in. Michael and Rachel were showered with love, hugs, and food! Bread and Butter catering provided the most exquisitely beautiful and undeniably delicious food. The menu was quiche on quiche on quiche, followed by gorgeous local salad and veggies. Their elegant floral cake was made by Tandem Bakery. After delicious noshing, Kenya Hall raised the roof with her band, and the dance party started. Rachel and Michael honored their desires and crafted their with intention. It was both unique and a smashing success.

Congratulations, Rachel + Michael, and thanks for letting me capture your incredible Maine wedding!
