Many years ago, I fell in love with Vermont even before Maine ( a story for another time), so when Ally and Ellis asked me to photograph their Vermont wedding at the Mad River Barn, I was completely on board. The verdant, green mountains and magical overgrown countryside make me feel so at home. On top of that, these two Vermonter heartthrobs are just the type of people who you love being around. They are energetic and magnetic. Ally and Ellis met and fell in love in Boston, but had strong family roots to Vermont and took their chance to move there early in the spring. They got engaged in the mountains, married in the mountains, and now live in the mountains.
Their wedding day took place on the fourth of July weekend in Waitsfield, Vermont, at the Mad River Barn, and what a crazy day it was. When I arrived, dark clouds were looming. The clouds then turned to POURING rain and thunder, which lightened up just in time for us to do an outdoor first look. These radiated joy out of every pore (really cliché of me to say, but it was really true) as they shared their private moment with laughter and love. Ally’s dress by Made with Love Bridal was just the kind of dress Ellis thought she would wear, and Ellis showed off his embroidered suit. We grabbed a few more portraits of the two of them and their bridal party before the Impending storm began again. Since it was Fourth of July weekend, the bridal party busted out red, white, and blue smoke bombs. It was epic and so fun! I have the best job.
Due to the rain, the ceremony spontaneously had to take place inside of the gorgeous renovated Mad River Barn. Inside it felt very cozy with the fireplace lit and warm. The officiant was their brother in law who spoke with grace and with a sweet, intimate knowledge of the couple. After the announcement of their marriage, their incredible enthusiastic communities hollered, screamed, and clapped with excitement.
The cocktail hour was outside in the gorgeous garden and grassy knolls surrounding the barn. Inside the barn, the tables were set for dinner. The decor was bright, modern, and unique. A large installation of birch branches with hanging feathers hung above the dance floor. The hot pink acrylic table numbers and signs by Serrato Signs complemented the vibrant floral designs by A Schoolhouse garden. Ally is an architect and her style chic as hell.
The reception was quite a party- both Ally and Ellis are amazing dancers, and during their first dance, they were not afraid to get down! The band Stax from East Coast Soul from Boston was full of top-level performers that livened up everyone in attendance (including me), and the dance party was the MOST EPIC. Outside, the campfire blazed, and people talked, drank, and, most importantly, roasted marshmallows. The night ended with a bang when Ally and Ellis had a lively, gorgeous sparkler send off!
Congratulations Ally and Ellis! Your Vermont wedding at the Mad River Barn was a dream that I am so grateful to have captured. I love being a New England wedding photographer!
